At Big Brown House, we make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people by supporting them to develop and maintain meaningful connections, and thrive at home and in the community.

Our programs are flexible and designed in consultation with each individual to cater to their interests, strengths and the goals they identify.

Tailored mentoring programs can be adapted for a variety of abilities and can address complex needs to provide the best possible outcomes for each child and young person.

Supported Family Time (Supervised Contact)

Big Brown House Therapeutic Support Workers provide a safe and nurturing environment to facilitate Supported Family Time (Supervised Contact), to assist children and young people to enjoy a safe and enjoyable visit with family members.

Our Supported Family Time provides:

  • A tailored program to encourage positive family interaction and help develop stronger connections

  • Visits in a variety of family-friendly locations, within the community or our safe and family centred contact rooms

  • Option to access our family centred contact room in Newcastle

  • Support at short notice or regular scheduled dates

  • Trained and supported contact workers

  • Prompt and detailed reports, recognised as a high standard by the Family Court

  • Highest health and safety standards, in line with all Federal and State Government regulations

Our therapeutic support workers can also host approved supported family time with family members online (using their own technology) at home. We also offer the option of providing technology, within one of our properties in the Newcastle area, where there is no access in participants home(s).

Transport

Big Brown House offers a supportive and reliable transport service for children and young people to local, regional or interstate locations.

We have comfortable and safe company cars, including a professionally installed baby car seat.

Our transport services can be used for:

  • Transport to and from school

  • To and from respite care

  • For appointments or court dates

  • Camps or family vacations

  • Interstate transport and travel bookings

These services are available for children and young people of all ages and levels of ability.

Transport is available at short notice, both inside and outside of business hours and during holidays.

Big Brown House Transport may also be linked with our Supported Family Time, Respite or Mentoring services.

Youth Mentoring Program

Our tailored Youth Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for young people to spend time with a positive role model who will help them build skills and resilience through an individualised plan and activities.

Our mentors are trained in therapeutic care and are positive role models who can help equip young people to cope with life’s challenges and decisions, by assisting them to learn life skills and achieve their potential.
